Die Gemeinde Twedt entstand am 1. August 1970 durch die Zusammenlegung der Gemeinden Grumby und Buschau. Die Bundesstraße 201 führt im Abschnitt von Schleswig über Süderbrarup nach Kappeln direkt durch die Dorf­lage von Grumby und, weiter in östlicher Richtung, nordwestlich unmittelbar an jener vom namenstiftenden Ortsteil vorbei. Twedt gehört zum Landkreis Schleswig-Flensburg.

In nur circa 9 Kilometern Entfernung ist man direkt an der schönen Schlei, nach Kappeln sind es 20 Minuten (21 km), bis zur Ostsee sind es gerade mal 30 Minuten mit dem Fahrzeug.

In Süderbrarup (ca. 10 Minuten mit den Fahrzeug) besteht sowohl die nächste Möglichkeit zum Einkaufen als auch der Anschluss an den Schienenpersonennahverkehr im Nahverkehrsverbund Schleswig-Holstein (Kiel–Flensburg).

Die Einwohnerzahl liegt bei ungefähr 500.
