Memmingen, also known as the “gateway to the Allgäu”, is the city of gates and towers in Upper Swabia. Half-timbered facades and numerous small squares convey a flair of the Middle Ages. The Upper Swabian Baroque Route runs right across the Bavarian city, passing the baroque palace of “Hermannsbau” - in which the city museum is housed, and the Church of St. Martin - known for its impressive choir stalls. Well worth seeing are the villas in the Wilhelminian style, which run along the promenade on Kaisergraben. Memmingen’s exceedingly lively cultural scene also has a lot to offer. As such the annual culture festival “Memminger Meile” enjoys extensive popularity, as does the historic theatre spectacle “Wallenstein”, which takes place every four years and attracts a large number of spectators. Particular event highlights with a lengthy tradition are the Memmingen children’s festival and the fishing day, The city offers optimum living comfort and convenience coupled with a diverse range of leisure and educational facilities. Additionally, Allgäu airport and the direct link with the motorway network make Memmingen a flexible and dynamic commercial location.
