When purchasing real estate, ownership is not transferred immediately upon signing the purchase agreement. There is usually a certain period of time between the notarization of the contract and the final registration of the buyer as the owner in the land registry. To protect the buyer during this phase, there is the priority notice of conveyance under Section 883 of the German Civil Code (BGB).
