To the east of Sachsenhausen lies the small Frankfurt district of Oberrad – still affectionately known as the "garden village" because the neighborhood actually originated from gardens. To this day, the famous seven herbs of Frankfurt's green sauce are still grown in Oberrad. In addition to Frankfurt's largest vegetable market, there is also a lively allotment garden culture here. The banks of the Main in Oberrad are always worth a stroll: in summer, it's worth visiting one of the restaurants serving local specialties or meeting up in one of the cozy beer gardens. Designed in the 1950s and 60s as an office city in the countryside, some of the office towers now serve as residential quarters. Local recreation can be found in Lucht Park or in the particularly popular LILU, the former light and air bath, which has been converted into an urban playground – with playgrounds, sunbathing lawns, a café, barbecue area, and viewpoint.
In Schwanheim, in addition to the historic city center, there are also several tall office buildings, some of which are used for business and some for residential purposes. New housing developments such as the Lyoner Quartier, beautifully located between the Main River, the city forest, and the golf course, are particularly in demand. The "Schwanheimer Düne" nature reserve is a popular local recreation area with rare flora and fauna and always offers a welcome opportunity for a bike ride.
