What is an air-to-water heat pump?
An air-to-water heat pump uses energy from the outside air to efficiently heat buildings and produce hot water - without fossil fuels. It is suitable for both new buildings and existing properties and is a key solution if you want to modernize your heating system.
⚙️ How does an air-to-water heat pump work?
The principle is based on a thermodynamic cycle:
A fan draws in outside air.
A refrigerant absorbs the heat in the evaporator and evaporates.
The compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the vapor.
In the condenser, the vapor releases heat to the heating system.
The pressure drops via an expansion valve and the cycle starts again.
Through this process, the heat pump efficiently supplies heat for heating and hot water.
✅ Advantages of an air-to-water heat pump
Simple installation: No drilling or major earthworks required.
High efficiency: 1 kWh of electricity produces 3-5 kWh of heating energy.
Can be combined with photovoltaics ☀️: Further reduces operating costs.
Reliable in the cold: Modern appliances work as quietly as a whisper down to -25 °C.
This makes the air-to-water heat pump ideal for reducing heating costs and protecting the environment at the same time.
