Bielefeld is considered a strong economic center and is an open-minded cultural metropolis in the East Westphalian region. Founded as a medieval linen weaver's town, Bielefeld has developed into a true metropolis with nearly 330,000 inhabitants in an area of about 260 square kilometers. Bielefeld shines not only with world-renowned traditional companies that offer many career opportunities, but also with a particularly high quality of life at the Teutoburg Forest.

In addition to being an official university location since 1969, the innovative Bielefeld University is the top location in OWL with around 25,000 students and a university of applied sciences with numerous courses of study. In terms of transport, Bielefeld is optimally connected: There are two freeway connections to the A 2 (Oberhausen - Berlin) and to the A 33 freeway connecting the north and south. Many regional destinations are reached via the federal highways 61 and 66. The ICE train takes only two and a half hours from the main train station to Berlin. Bielefeld's public transport is covered by four streetcar lines and a dense bus network.
